EDG recieves additional NFWF grant for wildlife habitat

In July of 2018, EDG received an additional $30,000 in grant funding from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation to continue environmental education outreach, invasive species removal, and introduction of native plants. Invasive species such as kudzu are periodically removed with the help of partners at Trees Atlanta, community volunteers, and visiting goats.

EDG receives additional EPA subgrant

From Atlanta Business Chronicle, May 25, 2017:
As the remaking of metro Atlanta continues apace, cleaning up and re-purposing some of the area’s most problematic properties requires more than a motivated developer with a permit, a bulldozer and a construction crew. READ ARTICLE

Groundbreaking November 2016

After almost four years of planning, the PATH Foundation has begun construction of the East Decatur Greenway Trail! The 1.1 mile bicycle/pedestrian trail will provide safe, off-the-road access to the Avondale MARTA station from the trailhead at 890 Columbia Drive.

These photos, taken on November 3, mark the very beginning of the project–the construction entrance located at the Avondale MARTA parking lot. Over the next three weeks, workers will install erosion control over the entire length of the trail. The trail construction process is estimated to last three to four months.

The Avondale MARTA parking lot is the future site of a mixed-use development that is scheduled to begin before the end of the year. The developer, Columbia Ventures, has worked closely with East Decatur Greenway to design a state-of-the art bicycle/pedestrian plaza.

Work Begins 2015

The work begins today, November 11, at 890 Columbia Drive, the former Speed Trip gas station! Contractors are installing the erosion control measures. As soon as Dekalb county inspects this, the petroleum remediation will start, we hope next week. You’ll see big trucks and excavation equipment at the site for the next few weeks, removing the petroleum-contaminated soil.

Thanks to all our community, who have supported this project in many ways–letters, emails, donations.
