East Decatur Greenway Volunteer Workday! April 1, 9am-1pm
The trees along the new trail are in danger of dying due to infestation by ivy and other invasive vines, which presents a great volunteer activity for those of us in the area. Join us on SATURDAY, APRIL 1, to clear some of the vines and save the trees. We’ll also work on invasive plants across the street from the trail near the Katie Kerr neighborhoods. Details for the clean-up are below. Representatives from East Decatur Greenway (Michele Ritan) and the PATH Foundation (Jonathan McCaig) will be present to provide some direction and answer questions.
Details: -Time/date: Saturday, April 1 from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Come at any point, and stay as long as you can. -Meeting point: Meet by the wood fence entry across from Ashfield Drive. (There will be balloons.) -Bring: Clippers, gloves, hat, water, sunscreen, bug spray. Also, cover your legs/arms--ivy can irritate the skin. Please bring paper refuse bags if you have some. -We’ll have refreshments, so let us know you're coming, or share your email address for future volunteer opportunities: docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ww6yYvNHawORkLMJBcJbYnp4_EkORl8fLyMGLTrsV0M/edit?usp=sharing -Clean-up: We’ll need places to leave the full refuse bags. If anyone has a pick-up truck and might be willing to help with that in the afternoon, let us know. Or if you’re willing to put the stuff in front of your yard for county pickup. -Rain: We'll keep an eye on the weather and will update the posting and/or email volunteers if there are any changes. If you don't see an update, assume we'll be out there.
